Description
Summary:This case is about a cyberstalking scandal at eBay, which involved six of its corporate security employees perpetrating stalking and harassment against Ina Steiner and her husband, David, who were critical of eBay. Ina Steiner is a blogger and cofounder/editor of EcommerceBytes. Devin Wenig, ex-CEO of eBay, was irked by Steiner because she often criticized both eBay and him in her blogposts. In August 2019, eBay security analysts, using a fake Twitter account, harassed Steiner and her husband. The security analysts even mailed insects and several gross items to the Steiner couple's residence. In June 2020, U.S. federal authorities charged the six security analysts with cyberstalking Steiner but found no evidence against Wenig or other top executives. Although federal authorities did not accuse Wenig of cyberstalking, did he hold any responsibility for the scandal? How could he have handled the situation differently? Could the criticism on EcommerceBytes have provided an opportunity for eBay to improve its performance?
