Description
Summary:In 2005, Arvind Lal need to grow PathLabs to combat increased competition from foreign companies in the Indian healthcare diagnostics industry. Dr. Arvind Lal offered a minority stake to private equity and inducted a professional CEO as part of a package deal with Westbridge Capital. Between 2005 and 2016, revenues increased to over 15 times the level of 2005 and profit after tax increased over 30 times. The team at Dr Lal PathLabs was excited about expanding the company's international footprint. PathLabs had incorporated two international companies in the Netherlands and Nepal. Yet, there were enormous unmet needs in India alongside potential for public-private partnerships. PathLabs must now make trade-offs over portfolio choice and regional versus international footprint.
