Description
Summary:To understand the everyday lives of members of an ideological movement, ethnography, especially complementing interviews with participant observations, offers helpful possibilities. Through ethnography, one can understand the lifeworlds of their interlocutors. Furthermore, one can understand how ideology finds relevance, negotiation, and adaptation in the lives of its practitioners. In this case study, I demonstrate how investigating a discourse conceptualized in a movement-specifically, the idea of love jihad (holy war through love)-brought me to reflect on my position as a researcher and further produce important findings. This case study highlights that when faced with scattered sources of information, the task for analyzers requires a dynamic approach.
