Description
Summary:This case study is based on a research project that explored reproductive justice for persons with disabilities in Ireland. This project, titled "the Re(al) Productive Justice Project," used a disability rights research method to balance the input of voices of disabled and nondisabled people into the research design. The adoption of a disability rights research method adhered to three core principles: (a) The research was initiated and led by the voices of the disabled community, (b) the research responded to a rights concern, and (c) the research was returned to the community. Following these core principles resulted in specific processes, decisions, and challenges as the research unfolded. These aspects included the diversity of voices and lived experiences across the participatory advisor groups; the disability community having ownership of all phases of the research process; and the development of accessible topic toolkits, a communication guide, and a know-your-rights guide to facilitate the practical transfer of knowledge directly to the community to advance the rights of persons with disabilities.
