| Summary: | Elite interviews are a key tool in carrying out a research project. Elites can often offer firsthand information on political processes that is unavailable to many people in a country. Conducting elite interviews successfully, however, takes considerable preparation and research. This case study summarizes a project that investigated the relationship between foreign aid and tax revenues in Uganda. I conducted 33 elite interviews for this project in the spring of 2015, and offer reflections and practical lessons based on what worked and what did not for these interviews. I also note the role of privilege in gaining access to these elites. |
