520 8 |a Online survey research presents several opportunities and advantages in terms of efficiency, cost, recruitment and retention of participants, data collection and design, and collaborative work compared with more traditional in-person approaches. Yet, online survey research also presents challenges which researchers should expect so that they can better address them in their own studies. We selected a case study that highlights what we have learned from conducting online survey research. We also discuss general strategies that we have used during our online survey studies pertaining to collecting qualitative versus quantitative data, implementing longitudinal versus cross-sectional research, and forming multisite collaborative studies versus single-site independent studies.
