Description
Summary:This case study documents the experience of a novice researcher in her dissertation process. In the case study, I explain my research plan and rationale for certain decisions, such as the choice to use online data collection and the choice to offer a small incentive to participants. Online survey research offers great benefits as a method to efficiently and affordably collect data from respondents over an unlimited geographic area. However, there are some unique challenges when conducting online survey research that must be acknowledged and mitigated in order to ensure reliable research findings. I share my experience of discovering anomalies in my data and highlight the problem of fraud that occurred when some respondents submitted multiple entries likely in order to gain more e-gift cards. I share my process to attempt to eliminate the fraudulent responses from my sample and share strategies that researchers may want to implement to reduce the incidence of fraudulent survey responses impacting the quality of survey research results.
