Summary:This case study offers an account of a small-scale project conducted within a critical case study research design. In particular, it focuses on the challenges and advantages of undertaking such a design. In doing so, we discuss various research practicalities, ethical considerations, the research design in detail, our main method of data collection and elaborate on how the design has been implemented. We conclude with practical lessons learnt and a list of discussion questions. The case is useful for students and early career researchers undertaking educational research in higher education.
