Summary:Edward Rose (1909-2002) was an American anthropologist and sociologist. Rose was the originator of a range of approaches that he called the "ethno-inquiries" (EIs). These are sociological investigations that retain and celebrate members' accountsfrom challenging the role of the sociologist to affording authorial responsibilities or "voice" to members of society. The development and practice of EIs was so closely associated with Rose and his students at the University of Colorado at Boulder that these EI approaches were accorded the soubriquet "Mountain Time Sociology," after the time zone in which they worked, and the Rocky Mountains that tower over the university campus.
