| Summary: | This case study describes how I gathered data from five women working or volunteering within a Rape Crisis Service in the United Kingdom using a narrative framework. Through describing how I recruited participants, I show that developing a personal relationship with the gatekeeper of the organization involved in the research can go a long way in helping the recruitment process. I also focus on the sampling process and how I had to lower my initial aim for the number of participants as the stories generated through the interviews represented richer data than expected. Through designing a diagram that I used as an interview prompt, I was able to elicit stories from the women who participated in my research. I discuss the benefits of such a tool to gather data. Finally, I focus on the ethical dilemmas associated with carrying out qualitative research and the ways in which I have strived to make it as open, consultative, and non-exploitative as possible. Through keeping a regular reflective journal and using "self-disclosures" in the interviews, I made sure that my research design reflected my personal political values. |
