Description
Summary:In this case study, I detail the unplanned journey I took of researching immigration policies in the state of Utah. I provide a brief background that explains how I first became involved in the topic of immigration (a research topic that I am very unfamiliar with) and then took advantage of immigration legislation occurring in Utah to supplement the research on state immigration policies. Realizing very little qualitative research on this topic has occurred, I detail how my co-author and I embarked upon a case study of Utah's immigration legislation, briefly discuss how the findings from our study contributed to the larger discussion, and detail the process of the qualitative research we undertook. In addition, I discuss the reviewer's responses to our work when submitted for publication and provide arguments for when and why qualitative work is critical to undertake.
