| Summary: | The Narrative Policy Framework is a theory of policy process whose overall aim is to explain how policy narratives influence policy outcomes. According to the Narrative Policy Framework, policy stories can be used to clarify whether and how policy narratives affect individual public opinion. This case focuses on a specific application of the Narrative Policy Framework to research the role of policy narratives on individual public opinions and policy beliefs. Specific examples from a study using a quasi-experimental research design and empirical analyses are provided. Not all research projects that are focused on narratives are appropriate for a Narrative Policy Framework analysis. This case study is intended to clarify what policy narratives are according to Narrative Policy Framework, the type of studies that can be conducted by using Narrative Policy Framework approach, and how to develop Narrative Policy Framework research questions. The discussion includes clarifications on several decisions in the research process to conduct a micro-level study, as well as potential sources of narrative data. |
