Summary:	Community-based participatory research (CBPR) is widely used in the public health field; however, little is known regarding the level of community participation during the initial program developmental stages or how this involvement is perceived by community representatives. Here, promotoras de salud (community lay workers) codeveloped a community health childhood obesity program with assistance from a local healthcare provider using CBPR principles. Both, focus groups and testimonios (oral testimonies), were conducted and analyzed via grounded theory. Results suggest that trust and total integration in the partnership are critical to this process.
