| Summary: | There is a desperate need to challenge anti-Indigenous racism in so-called Canada. One increasingly common approach to reduce anti-Indigenous racism is education, though there is little research to establish its effectiveness. We sought to fill this gap, and in a five-study mixed-methods program of research, we designed and experimentally assessed the effectiveness of a brief educational video designed to reduce anti-Indigenous racism. Throughout the program of research, we endeavored to embed Indigenous research approaches. In this case study, you will learn about including Indigenous research approaches in social psychological research using a mixed-methods design. We discuss the tensions between Indigenous approaches and social psychological approaches, such as the tensions around qualitative research, applied research, and wholistic approaches. Ultimately, we felt that the process went well, though we would have done some things differently, as we discuss in the case study. Readers will learn one way to embed Indigenous research approaches into social psychology as well as how to navigate the challenges that come with such an endeavor. |
