One approach that it uses is focus groups, which have recently pivoted from in-person to virtual mode in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This transition brought a number of ethical, technical, human, and organizational challenges, as well as new opportunities. This article outlines the challenges of conducting online focus groups and the solutions Statistics Canada has used to overcome these challenges. We expect that the solutions found will inspire researchers and students who will be able to adapt them to the academic context and their specific situation. In addition, it highlights the new opportunities that online focus groups have opened up. |
