| Summary: | This dataset demonstrates how grounded theory analysis is used to examine, synthesise, and interpret data from multiple sources to generate conceptually abstract categories that constitute what counts as literacies in schools. The data are provided by Dr. Sau Kew Chong, from the National Institute of Education, Singapore, and are taken from her completed PhD study which investigated the meanings of people's ways of using reading and writing in and outside classrooms. An important goal of this study was to search for a broadened conceptualisation of literacy in school setting by adopting a social perspective and diverse tools to examine the wide array of literacy practices in two ethnographic case study schools. This dataset exemplar will be of interest to qualitative researchers, academics, and postgraduate students who are enthusiastic about yet challenged by the complexity of producing a coherent analysis and interpretation of data that come from multiple and diverse sources. This dataset file is accompanied by a Teaching Guide and a Student Guide. |
