| Summary: | What type of data should researchers collect in their study, and how should they best use that data? As researchers, having participants provide as much data as possible may seem like an ideal scenario. However, the reality of collecting an overabundance of data may be problematic if not collected adequately and without consideration of the statistical, ethical, and practical implications. Throughout this case study, we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of studies using narrative data and/or numerical data, while highlighting issues that may arise at the various levels of the research process. In addition, recommendations for appropriate selection and uses of each type of data will be discussed, while specifically discussing ethical and methodological considerations for the data usage. |
