To meet the unique adequacy requirement, an analyst must develop a deep competence so as to recognise, identify, and describe the haecceities, the just thisness of the local setting he or she is researching. Here, haecceity refers to the uniqueness (hence, unique adequacy) of any specific interaction in its ongoing, lived, distinctive details. It is perhaps the most fundamental tenet of ethnomethodological research; it is certainly what is distinctive about ethnomethodology.
