Summary:	Increasingly, researchers are recognizing the important roles race, ethnicity, and culture play in shaping individuals' health behaviors. When focus groups are racially homogeneous, focus group methodology has the potential to allow individuals of a given race to share their collective health experiences. This case study details a race-based focus group study aimed to understand racial differences in patients' attitudes toward prescription drugs and prescription drug advertising. In doing so, it provides insight into the practicalities involved in conducting race-based focus groups around health issues, including challenges in focus group design, implementation, and data analysis.
