Description
Summary:Few studies have used online survey methods, such as email and SurveyMonkey, to assess the awareness and opinions of investigators or members of ethics boards about previous regulatory guidelines issued in India in 2016. To date, no such studies have conducted online surveys using Google Forms, a free online survey platform. The case study describes in detail how, in the course of my doctoral research, a methodology was developed to represent the knowledge and views of Indian researchers about India's new drugs and clinical trials rules of 2019. Data for analysis were collected from researchers from multiple sources across India between July 2019 and August 2019; to be used in preparing my doctoral thesis and its related publications. The learning outcomes of developing this methodology included the following lessons: First, it is preferable to keep the research focused and simple. Second, researchers should thoroughly familiarize themselves with the survey software being used. Finally, the researcher should cleanse the dataset and understand the data in-depth before performing the analysis. This is important and also represents the time invested. Overall, this case study discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology I developed and also provides an understanding of how the method could be utilized in different settings to investigate various research questions.
