| Summary: | A mid-size University in the Deep South was awarded a 3-year US$765,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to prevent the transmission of HIV among 18- to 24-year-olds using evidence-based programming in a community/campus collaboration. Two counties--one rural and the other urban--and the University campus were the target intervention sites. A comprehensive attitude and behavior baseline survey was completed prior to implementation, repeated each year, and at the end of the grant. In Year 2, a short continuous Intercept Survey was created using behavior change theory and social marketing strategies, and was implemented to measure progress toward measurable goals for changes in social norms, penetration into the target populations, motivation, intention, and social influence. This case study includes the discussion of the processes of framing the questions, gathering the data, determining need, choosing the implementation areas and the high-risk target populations, administration of a survey, data collection, analysis, and sustainability. |
