| Summary: | Treatment non-adherence is a frequent phenomenon in chronic patients, yet it is still poorly understood. What can cause patients to unintentionally skip doses in their treatment? When asked directly, they tend to say that they simply forget. To go beyond this answer, which is of little use for health professionals wishing to help their patients, a method of data collection and analysis adapted to non-reflective behaviours such as routines is needed. This case study presents how the test-justification method and the failure mode and effects analysis method have been successfully used to better understand unintentional non-adherence. These methods are potentially relevant for the investigation of other routine behaviours influencing health. |
