Description
Summary:A key concern for qualitative interviews as a research methodology is very often being able to capture the understandings, positions, and meanings of a particular issue from the perspective of the people who it most affects and often whose voices struggle to be heard more widely. This case study discusses a specific type of qualitative interview that is especially suited to generating rich and detailed interviews that foreground the meaning frames of interviewees: narrative interviews. Using the example of a study that was conducted on converts to Islam in Britain, this case study shows the strengths of narrative interviews for these concerns. This case study highlights some of the central orientations of a narrative methodology and its uses and the key practicalities when planning and conducting narrative interviews, including important skills and considerations.
