Description
Summary:The purpose of this project is to uncover the spiritual and ritual significance of Chicana-Indigena practices of Indigenous reclamations and womb-based knowledges. This case study centers on the developmental stage of designing a decolonial framework for a Chicana-Indigena methodology. This methodological approach is used to engage in research that ultimately renews Indigenous Mexican womb-centered knowledges and spiritual practices. It addresses the complexities of avoiding extractivist methods by centering desire, abundance, and compassionate inquiry. It speaks to the importance of intentionally staying grounded with purpose. Readers will gain insight into the decision-making process of selecting an oral history testimonio approach over traditional ethnography. This case study provides insight into creating an interview process that aligns with a decolonial ethic. It emphasizes participants' agency in narrative construction. It also addresses the decolonial imperative to remain in deep relation with the community and the role of engaging in research in one's home community. It further explains why relational reciprocity with participants and giving back to the community broadly is critical in decolonial research. Readers will also gain an understanding of the balancing act that occurs when researchers approach their projects with an activist perspective fused with spiritual intention, a spiritual-activist approach.
