Summary:	Triangulation means combining several perspectives on an issue of research. Mostly, this refers to combining several different qualitative or quantitative methods or combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. Triangulation allows researchers to utilize research methods in a flexible and systematic way that makes it appropriate to what is being studied. This entry begins by more fully defining triangulation and its purpose and then it describes different types of triangulation and the adaptation of various versions. The next section guides readers though the process of using triangulation in the research process. Examples of studies that successfully utilized various types of triangulation are then provided, and the entry concludes with a look at how triangulation may be able to weave together established and new research methodologies.
