We conducted six different studies, five of which employed an experimental design. I focus on our efforts to replicate the basic effect of punishment on forgiveness, using several different experimental paradigms. I also use the context of punishment and forgiveness to demonstrate some of the challenges involved when examining how people behave in situations that are not easily amenable to experimental design. |
