| Summary: | Intimate partner violence against women with disabilities is a widespread problem, yet research on intimate partner violence among women with disabilities is limited. This case describes a research study developed to address this research gap. When we began conducting our research, existing databases collecting statistics on crime and intimate partner violence lacked pertinent information regarding disability. We conducted a retrospective analysis of previously collected clinical data from an intimate partner violence program dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities, using the technique known as clinical data mining. This method was employed to create a database of information regarding survivors of intimate partner violence with disabilities, which has been analyzed by the authors to inform several research studies to date. In this case, we discuss the practical challenges of conducting research using clinical data mining, as well as the benefits of reviewing clinical case records for research purposes. |
