Summary:Modern idealism is a family of philosophical systems and positions that primarily stem from Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) and G. W. F. Hegel (1770-1831) and develop in different directions through a complicated transnational trajectory that spans many countries including Italy, France, Britain, Sweden, and the United States. All idealists share the belief that reality can only be understood as 'mind'. The concept of mind thereby captures both subjective and objective realms, such as consciousness, self-consciousness, rationality, understanding, action, freedom, religion, social relations, nature, and culture.
