| Summary: | This case study focuses on the approaches to families who are described as being vulnerable to encourage them to take part in research. The example focused upon was part of a large evaluation of Signs of Safety, a social work practice framework developed in Australia that is increasingly used in many other countries. It examines the processes that need to be in place to respect and protect families; engage with the services that the families are in touch with--and who act as gatekeepers; and ensure the safety of researchers. The case study also explores the challenges that are posed by those parents or family carers who have poor literacy levels or do not speak the majority first language and how these were addressed in this particular research study to ensure, as far as was possible, that the data collected were accurate, inclusive, and robust. |
