Description
Summary:Qualitative interviewing is an increasingly popular method in medicine and the health sciences. This research method can result in a rich data set rooted in the stories people tell about their lives. This case study will highlight the practicalities of conducting in-depth qualitative interviews to study people's experiences of chronic illness within two different national contexts. From the perspective of a trained qualitative health researcher, this case study also provides details on what to do with the data once you have finished conducting the interviews, through a description of how to use the "narrative analysis" approach to analyze lengthy in-depth interviews. In addition, this case study contains a discussion of the benefits of qualitative interviews for gaining "insider perspectives" on a topic and useful strategies for dealing with challenges that might arise when using this method.
