Description
Summary:Time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) is a patient-level or bottom-up costing method. It has gained increased attention within the health care literature due to the methods ability to generate more accurate costs of providing health care and its contribution to assessing the value of health care provision when combined with the measurement of patient reported outcomes. TDABC facilitates two processes--(1) costing the care of a patient's full cycle of care; and (2) identifying where efficiencies can be made and better outcomes can be achieved. While there has been an ever increasing body of literature in the area of TDABC, and the methodological framework has been well developed, the granular steps required to conduct the field work, in terms of data collection, has not received the same attention. This case study fills this gap in the literature by outlining the learnings from a study that developed a robust TDABC field work protocol.
