|a Designing an experiment requires careful and thoughtful planning. Paramount for the success of an experiment is the early identification of the research question and its translation into the appropriate research hypothesis. The hypothesis needs to be tested using the appropriate design and statistical procedures to have an ethical project that respects and protects the participants without compromising the objectives of the study. Research is not about collecting data; it is a whole process. Relating the project to the research process allows the researcher to develop and answer the research question in a logical and systematic manner. This study used an exploratory applied randomized crossover repeated-measures design that allowed the researchers to control adequately any extraneous variables that may have had an impact on the reliability and validity of the outcomes. Even the best well-planned design will have some setbacks, but in such a case a contingency plan will be in place, simply because it was planned a priori. This study of course was not unique in that manner, but even though researchers had to deal with some adversities, they were able to overcome the obstacles and successfully complete a study that lasted almost 2.5 years. They were able to answer whether short, disrupted sleep and high-intensity interval exercise have an influence on brachial artery vascular responses. Researchers provided evidence when it comes to prescribing exercise for cardiovascular and health-induced benefits in regard to the amount of sleep obtained the night prior to the exercise stimulus.
