Description
Summary:YouTube is a highly popular medium of content distribution. With over 1 billion users, there is great potential to deliver health messages. However, with this potential comes the ability to spread misinformation, which can result in health outcomes that are less than ideal. The purpose of this case study is twofold. First, we discuss the methods used to describe and analyze the content and features of YouTube videos related to vaccines. Second, we sought to help readers identify factors useful to consider when reviewing YouTube videos related to public health, recognize the need for such research, and recognize the limitations of cross-sectional designs for improving understanding about YouTube and public health. As the consequences of the anti-vaccination movement become increasingly influential, it is important for public health professionals to be aware of the forms of communication used to broadcast these messages as well as the content featured in them.
