| Summary: | Health care and health insurance research has been, is, and will be of significant interest to public health researchers, medical care providers, government administrators, and other stakeholders. To better understand public health and care, to make more informative policy decisions, it is important to evaluate the current status, evolution, outcome of reform, and other aspects of health care and insurance. For such evaluations, survey, including phone, in-person, and Internet, has been shown to be one of the most effective approaches. Third-party, independent survey studies conducted by researchers can effectively complement data/studies published by government agencies and health care providers. In this case study, we use China as an example and first demonstrate interesting and important health care and insurance questions that may arise (and can be potentially investigated using survey studies). We then carefully describe the main steps and considerations in designing, executing, analyzing, and publishing survey studies. |
