520 8 |a This qualitative case study examined the interviewer effect (or context) in interviews about the lived experiences of individuals aging in Japan. Two interviewers, a Japanese and a non-Japanese, conducted semi-structured interviews with 23 participants 67́90 years of age in Tokyo and Osaka and the surrounding areas (during July 2016 to July 2017). This case study describes the observations of each interviewer and their roles as they collected the interview data. It examines the role of the interviewer in the data collection process (including questionnaire translation, recruitment, sampling, and interview themes) for persons aging in Japan. The case also includes each researcheŕs reflections about her role in the interviewing process.
