| Summary: | Over the past century, Turkey has experienced both social and economic changes that have led to an alteration in women's status, which in turn has affected fertility behavior. This case study uses event history analysis, a statistical method that studies the occurrence and timing of events (Allison, 1982), to examine how different measures of women's status affect the timing of having children in Turkey using the 2003 Turkey Demographic and Health Survey. The Demographic and Health Surveys are cross-sectional surveys with large sample sizes that provide information on population, health, and nutrition. Although there can be limitations to using cross-sectional surveys for event history analysis, the Demographic and Health Surveys provide detailed birth histories which provide necessary data to use event history analysis. |
