Description
Summary:This case describes a qualitative case study of a yoga program which involved direct-instruction yoga practice for students at an urban, alternative school. It describes the general methodology of case study and the specific methods that we used. This project is the fruit of a collaborative friendship between Joanne Spence, a yoga service provider, and me, Andrea Hyde, a university faculty member. Throughout the project, we used a feminist-relational lens to acknowledge that relationships are paramount to our understanding of this work and to signal that we are operating under a strong ethic of care. We grappled with several ethical issues in writing the story of this program, which are common to feminist qualitative research. For example, How much should we reveal? How could we portray students in ways that disrupt stereotypes around race, gender, and class? How should we portray problematic relationships? What recommendations should we make and to whom?
