Description
Summary:This book is probably the first attempt to make this special topic in the field of partial differential equations accessible to a large audience. The book contains a description of how to construct Green's functions and matrices for elliptic partial differential equations. A number of applications are also presented showing the computational capability of the Green's functions method, and indicate possible ways to put into practice the results of the present study.
This monograph contains a carefully chosen subset of the author's earliest elaborations on the development of the technique for constructing Green's functions and matrices for elliptic boundary value problems. In addition there are descriptions of several applications of Green's functions and matrices in computational mechanics. The book may be recommended as the first text for those graduate students of applied mathematical physics (mechanics, electro- and magneto-dynamics, electronics, radio-physics, and so on) whose field of specialization is somehow related to the branch of mathematical physics mentioned above, and who face, therefore, a necessity to learn this special subject matter. It may also be interesting to engineers and researchers whose activity is related to applied mathematical physics.
