Description
Summary:This book is intended for a first course (three semester hours) in differential equations, following the sophomore calculus sequence. It is directed both to mathematics majors and to engineering students, for we believe that the needs of both are actually the same: technicians should understand fundamentals and scientists should know applications of their theories. We have stressed the broad outlook rather than specifics: mathematical understanding rather than the rapid acquisition of many techniques. We have not shunned physical applications and have presented more than merely routine and trivial problems.
