Description
Summary:"When I was first contacted by Wiley - Blackwell regarding a second edition of Advances in Equine Laparoscopy (AEL) my first reaction was, what already! A decade had passed, and every year of that decade bore fruit that adds to the tree of knowledge upon which the practice of minimally invasive surgery of the horse is built. The original goal of the first edition is continued in the second; "It represents a collaborative gathering of current advances in techniques and instrumentation and is designed to augment and contrast existing texts". The second edition reflects the works of 34 authors in 39 chapters. Each chapter in the new edition has been updated with relevant references produced during the intervening decade . A reality is that "paper will hold still and let you put anything on it". I have done my best only to have authors that have not only put it to paper but have also practically applied it to the horse. In addition, there are "surgeons with a lot of experience verses surgeons with the same experience a lot of times". I have done my best to select authors that continue to advance and adapt the practice of laparoscopy in the horse. Since the publication of the first edition, the American College of Veterinary Surgeons have credentialed fellows in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and created fellowships in that specialty. Fellows of MIS Large Animal Soft Tissue as well as leading experts from around the world have generously contributed to this edition. The basic organization is the same as the first edition but with the addition of a section on two-stage procedures. There are 10 new chapters covering techniques and applications developed in the last decade. There are also the additions of new videos that will be available online. The target audience of this book is unchanged, anyone interested in Minimally Invasive Surgery in the horse. It is my hope that AEL2 will be a bridge that allows equine surgeons to have stable footing as they reach into the future"--
