Description
Summary:"Psychologists, psychiatrists and other helping professionals working at the intersection of law and mental health are often asked to assess and treat people who stalk. The aim of this book is to guide such professionals to work with their clients in ways that can help to stop stalking. Drawing on their research and clinical experience, the authors introduce a framework for understanding stalking as a maladaptive self-regulation strategy and describe a cognitive behavioural approach to treating this problematic and harmful pattern of behaviour. They describe how to assess stalking in a way that informs detailed formulation and treatment planning, and how risk and safety must be considered and integrated into treatment. Supported by case examples and worksheets from the authors' practice, this book will help clinicians to structure treatment in ways that facilitate collaboration, overcome common barriers, and consider ethical and legal issues that arise when working in this area. While primarily focused on psychological therapy, the role of multidisciplinary treatment is discussed, including pharmacological and occupational interventions for people who stalk, and effective strategies for inter-agency collaboration when managing stalking."--
