Description
Abstract:The objectives of this study were to determine relative blood serum concentrations of vitamin A from 3 different herds of collared peccary (Tayassu tajacu), then evaluate the usefulness of serum vitamin A as a nutritional index. The control herd, Chaparral WMA herd, and Chaparosa Ranch herd had mean levels (ᵘg/100 ml) of 39.0, 34.6, and 30.8, respectively. The average range was a difference of 35.0, causing poor significance (p 0.05) by analysis of varience. As this was a pioneer study, recommendations for future studies are made to further understand the role of vitamin A in collared peccary nutrition.
