Description
Abstract:This study was conducted under the assumption that knowing more about readers and their reading habits will enable an editor to produce a newspaper that will be better read by more people. Many suggestions are drawn from others' research results. As an example of how small-scale research can help one editor make decisions about his newspaper, a survey of subscribers to the Bryan- College Station Eagle was conducted. Those interviewed were chosen from a random sample of subscribers living in Bryan-College Station. Questions concerned readership of 26 items in the Sunday, March 6, 1977, edition of the Eagle. Readership was found to be highest for local items and Ann Landers' column. Readership was lowest for nonlocal news articles. these results, as well as the subjects' comments, indicate the Eagle is used by its subscribers primarily as a source of local news, and that most of them turn to other newspapers, radio, or television for other kinds of news.
