Description
Abstract:“The Fall in The Fall, Billy Budd and 'Young Goodman Brown'" deals with three concepts of the Fall of Man: 1. The nakedness of Adam and Eve. 2. The eating of the forbidden fruit. 3. The loss of innocence and the knowledge of evil that resulted. Each of the three concepts is compared to each of the three works--"Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Billy Budd by Herman Melville and The Fall by Albert Camus. After analyzing the three works, several common strands were found to be running through the three works: 1. Ignorance and innocence seem to go together in all three works. 2. All three main characters were led to their downfall through pride. 3. All three works deal with death.
