| Abstract: | The headlines appearing in many rural-based newspapers in recent months have chronicled the economic squeeze that is forcing many farmers and ranchers to leave the agricultural sector. This study discusses many problems that farmers face and the causes of the current financial situation in agriculture. In addition, it analyzes the role that macroeconomic policy has played in encouraging financial moves of farmers. The farm situation is not promising, and uncertainty about future conditions provide little hope for those who remain in the sector. |
