| Abstract: | Prospective elementary teachers at Texas A&M University, who were in the first mathematics course designed especially for their major, were tested for mathematics anxiety. The 106 subjects (101 females, 5 males) were given the revised version of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale in a pretest/ posttest format with approximately four months between administrations. Other variables were used from data collected through a questionnaire. Correlations and analysis of variance tests for subgroups were performed and a model for the variables which best explain the mathematics anxiety level for the whole group was obtained. |
