Copperplate engraving, hand colored with watercolor.
Decorative title cartouche at center below upper neat line with illustrated putti on either side. Geographic bar scale showing "Millaria Gallica communia", along with "Excudit Guiljelmus Blaeu" engraved in bottom right corner. Has coat of arms featuring two leopards and a crown in upper left quadrant. The English Channel portion of the map is engraved with illustrations of seven ships and a sea monster.
Descriptive Latin text letterpress printed on verso with "Normannia, vulgo Normandie" printed above on right side, and "Normannia" above the left side. Number "23" in upper right of verso. Running footer "Gallia" and signature mark "Y" below text on right of verso. Text on right side of verso starts with a decorated initial "N."
Separated from volume 2 of one of three separate Latin editions of Blaeu's "Theatrum orbis terrarum, sive, Atlas novus". The second volume of the four-volume Latin edition (1644-1645) was published in 1645. The second volume of the five-volume Latin edition (1649-1655) was published in 1650. The second volume of the six-volume Latin edition (1649-1655) was published in 1655
