Description
Summary:Julia wants the title to be 'Slavery' not 'Modern Slavery' - and gave good reasons. Basically, to reflect that 'modern slavery' is a very disputed term. Partly as it has pulled in various kinds of nasty workplace practices which, whilst indeed nasty, shouldn't really be called 'slavery'. Partly as it implies this is different from 'old slavery' and partly because it implies that 'old slavery' is an historical issue thus sidelining debates about compensation, restitution, ongoing consequences of older slavery et cetera Better in her view to treat the topic as 'slavery' and then within that to talk about why we now speak of modern slavery, how it dis/connects with slavery. Anyway it all sounded convincing to me (and I think it is a red line for her).
