Description
Summary:This key topic has been high on our hitlist since the series' inception (and indeed, the entire series emerges from this topic). The author is well placed at a top and highly relevant UK school with good research/teaching experience in this area and an ability to write in an accessible manner for a wide audience. He has contributed to various LSE blogs about Brexit and other topics in the news and he's a regular Tweeter. Fake news and the so-called demise of democracy, the rise of populism and the return of the culture wars has surfaced since 2016 which the book outlines as a pivotal year for Western politics with stories of Russian interference in the US election and misinformation leading to the Brexit vote. The role of technology is also key within this current malaise and the book covers this as a key component of fake news. Nick's proposal is nicely balanced between providing both the context (what we know about fake news) and the road ahead (what we can do about it).
