Summary:Osmer Dennis Flake (known as both Oz and O.D.) was born in Beaver, Utah on 6 March 1868. His parents, William Jordan Flake and Lucy Hanna White were called by Brigham Young on a mission to help colonize the Arizona Territory in 1874. Osmer followed his father into ranching and the livestock industry. He and his first wife, Elsie Owens, had four daughters and one son. After her death, he married Ethel Ray in 1911. They were the parents of 4 sons, including the author, and one daughter. The family moved to Mesa and, later, to Phoenix, where Osmer died in 1958.
